This subject explores key aspects of the world of theatre, including how drama can reflect and challenge societal issues, the impact of different cultural and historical contexts on performance, and how actors, directors, and designers bring text to life on stage. You will learn to work collaboratively, think creatively, and communicate effectively, both on paper and in performance.

Grade 5 in English Language.

Assessment

Your work is assessed through a combination of written examinations and a practical performance-based component. This structure allows you to demonstrate your understanding of dramatic theory, theatrical style, and performance in both written and practical formats.

  • Written Exam 1 – Drama and Theatre – 2 hours 30 minutes

Covers set texts, the work of theatre practitioners, and live theatre evaluation.

  • Written Exam 2 – Theatre Makers in Practice – 2 hours 30 minutes

Focuses on interpretation of performance texts, directing concepts, and practical application of drama theory.

  • Non-exam Assessment (NEA) – Performance and Coursework

A substantial project that includes devising a performance based on a stimulus and exploring different theatre styles, accompanied by a written portfolio reflecting on your creative process and influences.

A Level Drama is a rich and inspiring subject that blends theory with practice. It nurtures your creative instincts while also developing your analytical and evaluative skills.
